TTS Ecommerce Manager

TTS (part of the RM Group) are one of the UK’s largest educational suppliers, offering over 18,000 products to schools, nurseries and other establishments. Their ecommerce site is an incredibly important sales channel, turning over millions each year.

The challenge

When we were approached by TTS, they had recently replatformed to Salesforce Commerce Cloud and had a fairly basic implementation based closely on the reference site, Site Genesis. Whilst this offers a lot of out-of-the-box functionality, there was much to improve with the UX and a host of bespoke features that TTS wanted to add to meet their unique business needs.

We began our relationship with TTS by completing UX and code reviews to identify areas for improvement. This, combined with their own roadmap of issues fed into a large number of prioritised Jira tickets, which were then separated out into hot fixes, monthly improvement sprints and projects. This is how we work with all of our ongoing support clients, giving flexibility to fix critical issues quickly, provide continuous improvement via monthly sprints and also running larger projects in parallel to deliver bigger change.

A selection of projects undertaken and the results they achieved are described below.

Email my basket

We designed and developed functionality allowing users to email their basket contents to a colleague, very useful for schools where it’s often teachers choosing products and a member of the office staff purchasing.

  • £240k revenue generated in 8 months from £7.5k project cost, across 470 orders

  • High interaction rate and Average Order Value

  • Reduced admin time within schools and nurseries

Frequently bought together

This was a new recommendations spot on the PDP, showing users highly relevant product suggestions and a total price were they to purchase all.

  • 2% higher than average site conversion

  • Increased basket size

We integrated TTS’s Wordpress blog into Commerce Cloud via an API. This allows them to manage it from Wordpress whilst offering users a seamless experience between the blog and the ecommerce site.

  • 6% bounce rate reduction

  • 38% speed increase

  • Pages per session increased

  • Utilised blog content for SEO gains, increasing traffic

  • Made the blog more shoppable by featuring products in relevant spots

Free delivery threshold

TTS had always offered free delivery on every order, but this meant that small orders were losing margin. We implemented a threshold for free delivery, so that it could be charged for on small orders.

  • Increased AOV

  • Increase in gross margin

  • 12.5% increase in orders between £20 and £50

  • Decrease in orders under £20 from 38% to 28% (a positive result as it is reducing the number of margin losing orders)

Product List Page

We redesigned the list page to show users more information at this point in their journey and also give them increased functionality.

  • Increased conversion

  • Greatly improved mobile experience

  • Allowed users to add to bag from the list page

  • Showed multiple variants

  • Redesigned promotions reducing customer confusion
