Stage 1 - 213 km

Wow, what a great start to the tour. 80 of us rolled out at 7.30am, 40 of us are doing the whole tour and others doing several stages. The terrain today was rolling, nothing more than a few % gradient, and really beautiful scenery.

We did a loop at the south of the island before following the coast up the east side to a pretty harbour called Bastia. We all rode together at the start for the first 40km, then it started grouping in abilities. I vowed to ride conservatively, but to let go off a back wheel in front is hard to do when you're competitive. Therefore we were down to 10 of us all doing a turn at the front and zipping along at 25 mph average for a couple of hours (tail wind heaven) . However, as we got nearer to the finish the numbers dwindled to 4 of us, who rode in together. No sprinting.

A big thank you to Ellis Whittam for sponsoring today's stage - your support is really appreciated.

The organisation here is outstanding - we turned up to the hotel as they were unloading and therefore got the first massages before retiring to the rooms for cold showers, which help to reduce soreness and get the muscles recovering quicker.

We've had our briefing for tomorrow and we're ready for a hilly day with block headwind all the way.

Unfortunately the tracker didn't work today, and wi-fi isn't working either, so a total lack of juicy content. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. In the meantime, here's a video review of the first day Day 1 review
