Travelex’s story starts in 1976 with the opening of their first store in London. Since then, they've grown both organically and through acquisitions to help more and more customers send and spend money worldwide. Today they are the world’s leading foreign exchange specialist, with over 1,500 stores, over 1,250 ATMs as well as online and mobile channels worldwide. Blueleaf’s relationship with the company started with their US team, when we were tasked with improving the front-end design and build for the website’s checkout flow. These pages are crucial to the overall effectiveness of the ecommerce website as they have extremely significant implications on conversion rates. It was essential that the checkout process was smooth-running and easy to use - this is true of any checkout but especially relevant when dealing with complex monetary transactions.

We also had to factor in use across numerous devices – Travelex focuses on mobile usage as they see a significant number of Travelex customers access the website through their mobile and tablet devices so the checkout design and customer journey needed to be responsive to ensure the best user experience across desktop, mobile and tablet.

We delivered a fully-responsive design with a strong UX focus. The new checkout flow was simplified, neater and much simpler to use. The new designs also integrated seamlessly with the existing Travelex backend development.

The project then moved to focus on the Travelex UK site and it was the first site launched with the new design in June. Major consideration was given to different customer preferences, tone and practical adaptations such as currency and delivery options.  In addition Travelex also wanted us to develop the homepage, brochure pages and currency convertor  “widgets” for their website and partner sites.

In essence we have transformed the look and feel of the website for the user.

The Results

The Travelex website is aesthetically-pleasing, uncluttered and extremely simple to use. So whether you’re looking to buy or research holiday money or interested in international payments, the site will guide you seamlessly to the information you need.

Neil Sefton, Head of Online & Mobile UK, comments: “Our research found that above all else foreign exchange customers value a convenient service, so we strove to make the process of ordering travel money through the website as simple as possible. I’m extremely proud of all the teams involved in getting the new website live and look forward to seeing the full benefits to the business.”
