Our regular look at Salesforce Commerce Cloud this week gives an insight into order retention.

What is it?

Order retention is Business Manager functionality which gives you the ability to delete or keep for a certain period of time your orders on production. It is just a simple field in which you can set a number of days for which your orders are to be kept. Orders older than the specified number of days will be automatically removed from the system.

Why do I care?

Before a site goes live, usually developers, the QA team and clients are placing orders on production. In most of these cases, the orders are not needed after the site is live. Order retention gives the developers the ability to purge all orders within a day - there is a limit of 50,000 orders per day so only the oldest will be purged.

Also, you may not want to keep all of the order history in Commerce Cloud depending on your integration, so they could be set for one year as an example, keeping just the relatively recent orders.

What do I need to know?

Order retention is Business Manager configuration therefore you can access it by navigating through Merchant Tools > Site Preferences > Order and Search for the Order Retention field under the Order Data Settings field group.
