The line between Social Media and Instant Messaging apps is becoming increasingly blurred these days, and that’s never more true than in the case of the increasingly popular ‘WhatsApp’, which has long been geared up to providing people with simple, personal, messaging in real time (their words, not ours!).
Immediately popular since its launch and often the app of choice when it comes to group messaging capabilities in particular, WhatsApp is still growing in popularity thanks largely to the fact it’s available on pretty much every mobile platform and is free of adverts. WhatsApp now supports video and audio messaging and makes use of existing mobile phone numbers and text messaging too - making it really versatile and cutting edge.
'Cutting edge' is part of our philosophy, as is context. This is particularly true when it comes to the Red Bull Platform and we are always keen to accommodate new functionality where it’s most needed, especially when it will help to further the reach of the excellent content on the sites. This is why we’ve recently added WhatsApp sharing support, specifically for mobile users, to a number of World Series sites, as shown in the screenshot below from Red Bull X-Fighters.
Sharing content via WhatsApp is now as easy as touching the share button shown in the page on your mobile device, and that sits right alongside the wealth of existing sharing facilities on every content page thanks to our existing social sharing bar.
