If it ain't broke, don't fix it…….
The world’s largest social networking site, Facebook, recently made changes to the homepages of some 750 million users, plenty of whom have been very vocal about what they think. Reading through the updates on my Facebook page over the last few days, it’s blatantly clear that the changes have not been very popular.
Now I don’t think it was coincidence that this was also the week that Google+ opened fully to the public and some may argue that Facebook had to make changes to compete with its rival. I’m not sure that the gamble has paid off. I read reports when Google+ first launched, about people staying with Facebook where all their friends networked and where they were comfortable. Making massive changes seems to be making users uncomfortable and driving them and their network elsewhere. People, as a rule don’t like change.
Blueleaf’s tip this week? The market is always right, so if you are going to make changes, test them and make sure it is what the market really wants. As the old adage goes, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
