I recently read an analyst’s report about social media increasing search engine ranking by up to 45%. They gave lots of facts and figures from research they’d undertaken and there is no doubt about it, social media should definitely be included in your SEO strategy. What really grabbed my attention is that it finally proves what we had all felt - that all the tweeting and activity on LinkedIn, Facebook and Google+1 is actually worth it! Now, I have to be honest, I didn't really use my Twitter and LinkedIn accounts very much at first because quite frankly I was scared witless! What did I have to say that people would find of value? As I followed a few relevant members of the digital community however, it became clear that I could contribute. I began with a few tweets and posts about our move to a new office, then started tweeting about press articles that were interesting. The turning point came when I responded to a tweet, driving people to a blog on our website that demonstrated the case in point - my followers suddenly shot up and traffic to our site increased - engagement!
Since then, I tweet and post on LinkedIn every day, it takes about ten minutes and I can see that the amount of people who view my profile and the number of searches I appear in has increased. The number of people who follow me and Blueleaf on Twitter has been steadily growing as has traffic to our website blog. You know, you don't have to be an analyst to see the benefits and you don't have to be a social media expert to have something interesting to say.
Our tip this week then is to make sure that the content on your website is really good and then get tweeting about it!
