WE DID IT... :-)

Starting on 31st May, myself Adrian Lomas - Blueleaf MD, and two of my friends Mark Taylor and Rob Dilworth set out on a 3 peaks challenge with a difference.

Over 89 hours we climbed Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis (over 11,000 feet) but also kayaked the length of Bala, Windermere and Loch Lomond (35 miles) AND cycled in between each of the stages (412 miles).

It was an amazingly tough event. As soon as we finished a stage, we had to change clothes and get ready to do another long stage of activity. The longest day on the bike was 161 miles on day 3, from Scafell up to Loch Lomond. This was followed by a very early start on day 4 with an 8-hour kayak session, over a very windy Loch Lomond, not being helped by the wind creating strong waves on our side. We did it but had to change and move quickly as we still had a 62 mile bike ride over the most amazing stretch of road up over Glencoe.

We averaged just over 17mph in total for the cycling stages, however we had to work hard to achieve this in order to arrive at the base of Ben Nevis by 7.30pm. All other walkers were coming off the mountain talking about the sub zero conditions, plus we were welcomed by a rescue helicopter in full flight recovering someone from near the top. It didn't feel like the best start, but we all mustered the strength to start the climb up Ben Nevis at 8pm, taking 2 hours 40 minutes to climb to the top whilst watching the best sunset ever and at the summit, seeing a full moon over a snow covered mountain. It was the most surreal experience ever - totally quiet, nearly 11pm at night with a full moon and still enough light to climb.

What an amazing and emotional end to a fantastic trip. What seemed to make it even better was the fact that the website with live tracking enabled people globally to track every stage as it unfolded. We were receiving texts and phone calls at key stages willing us on and this is what has helped us to raise, at the point of writing this, over £8,000 for the North West Cancer Research Fund. Thank you so much for any part you have helped with in this process. It really meant so much to us all, and will go some way to help more people.
